Aesthetic Surgery of the Abdominal Wall Review

1. Chapters are well categorized and displays the know-how about the standard and the modifications of abdominoplasty.
2. Illustrations are clear, glossy and state-of-the-art. These peri-operative pictures are very helpful even for the novice surgeon.
3. Chapter on the complications of abdominoplasty is well written but in my opinion it lacks the detailed knowledge on the revision and re-operation. Also, I think there should be more knowledge about the simultaneous other operations such as umblical hernia, gynecological surgery and breast reductions, etc.
4. Basic knowledge (anatomy, and etc.) is very good.Meticulous handling of issues in abdominal surgery.
5. An up-to-date textbook containing various authors and also a nice blend of surgical varieties.
Finally, I recommend this book highly as a must-read and must-buy textbook and it deserves appreciation even for the experts or propopents of the aesthetic abdominal surgery. This books deserves its price exactly.

The BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Abdominal Surgery provides a ready source of practical information for veterinary surgeons, and is also beneficial for veterinary students, nurses and technicians as well as those working towards a specialist qualification in soft tissue surgery.

The Manual concentrates on the most common soft tissue surgical conditions of the abdomen encountered in small animal practice and mentions briefly the more uncommon and complex surgical procedures. The main focus of the Manual is the various surgical techniques - illustrated throughout by the step-by-step Operative Technique panels - although medical issues and the decision-making process leading to surgery are also discussed.

Each of the chapters follows the same basic format: introduction; patient evaluation; differential diagnosis; diagnostic techniques; preoperative considerations; surgical management; and postoperative management. Warning and practical tip boxes also feature throughout the Manual.

Surgical Technique of the Abdominal Organ Procurement: Step by Step Review

The success of organ transplantation starts with the optimal medical and surgical treatment of the donor. Without good organ harvesting, there is a high mortality incidence in the patients on the waiting list and less spaces for the dialysis for new patients with kidney insufficiency. This book encompasses Dr Baranski's 20 year experience in the field of abdominal organ donation. It is a step-by-step guide with photographs and drawings with clear explanations highlighting pitfalls. The book quickly and easily guides the reader through the difficult steps during organ procurement. It is mainly illustration-based, with not a lot of text, and covers surgical technical mistakes and organ damage. Organ procurement is an essential and important part of organ transplantation. In most donors, the surgical procedure can be challenging for an inexperienced surgeon where more than one organ is removed. This part of transplant surgery is critically important. Inadequate preservation or surgical injury at this stage can lead to complete organ damage (not transplantable) or to serious complications in the recipient. This is a handy pocket book guide accompanied with a CD Rom for surgeons or senior surgical residents and fellows participating in organ procurement teams wishing to learn abdominal organ procurement or refresh their memory by referring to a particular step-by-step procedure. It will also benefit experienced surgeons in the field of organ transplantation with no organ procurement experience.

Health & Fitness in Plain English: How to Be Healthy, Happy, and Fit for the Rest of Your Life Review

I have 3 of Dr. Bookspan's books, and have utilized her extensive website as well. I was amazed at how quickly her methods worked on fixing my pain, pain that I had for years. No doctors, chiropractors, trainers have been able to do what Dr. Bookspan accomplished in about 5 minutes. And that is no exaggeration -- literally 5 minutes of stretching and re-posturing and I felt 80% better. And I continue to feel better every day. I hope this works for you as well. It is miserable to live with pain. This is the first review I felt compelled to write, but I feel very strongly about spreading the word - genius!

Abdominal Ultrasound: How, Why and When Review

This book was sent to me by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists for a book review. I am glad to say that I read this book and learned some new tricks and pathology. After being a technologist for 17 years I tend to think that there is not much out there that I have not herd about. NOT TRUE! This would be an excellent book for a neophyte sonographer or and experienced one. The focus is only on the abdomen allowing the author to cover the scanning, pathology, and best of all the reason behind some of our exams. It is always good to know "why" we are performing this exam. This author is from the United Kingdom and it is good to know that sonographers all over the world are doing good work in bascilly the same manner.

The Ultimate Breathing Workout (Revised Edition) Review

So far, I really like this book. I have gotten to the point at which you are suppose to stop for 2 weeks and practice abdominal breathing until it is natural for you. You have three excercises to do to help this process become reality. My only disappointment would be that his website www.ultimatebreathing.com doesn't currently have the breathing test on it. It says "coming soon" however it is not a new book. Not sure what the deal is there. You can do it on www.breathing.com though. The author of this website is the developer of the test used by Jaime Vendera.
Overall I am pleased and would recommend the book.

Schein's Common Sense Emergency Abdominal Surgery: An Unconventional Book for Trainees and Thinking Surgeons Review

I am about to end my chief year in general surgery residency - my copy of the first edition shows the wear of half a dozen total read throughs and probably hundreds of referencings. Newest edition is equally good. For the last 3 years I have given this book to our interns if they finish their surgical internship. And I've paid for this myself - if you know how little residents get paid you will know how important I think it is. If you are in surgical training DO NOT WAIT ANOTHER DAY BEFORE YOU BUY THIS BOOK. I do agree with another reviewer who thought a bit of cool surgical technique would have been good too. But, all in all, best, most useful little book on surgery ever. Nuff said.

Abdominal Training, Second Edition: A Progressive Guide to Greater Strength Review

I purchased about 10 books from Amazon on abs in order to compare them. This one is written by a physical therapist and contains some interesting discussions of scientific studies as well as some exercises for rehab not found in other books. It is difficult to use and not very complete compared with other books and is probably not your best choice. If you're looking for a good book to help you with your abs, here's my conclusion from comparing books...

If You Want to Trim Your Waistline: You can't trim your waistline without losing fat, and you can't lose fat around your waist without losing it everywhere (focusing on a muscle group like the abdominal muscles doesn't burn fat in that location, just a little bit of fat from everywhere on the body). So, if you want to trim your waistline, skip the ab workout books and go with a good, proven overall weight loss and fitness book like Bill Phillips' Body for Life. The Abs Diet is a similar program, but like all the Men's Health publications, it advertises a 6-week transformation, which is just a little unrealistic. Plan on more like 12-24 weeks to see really noticeable changes if you are fat.

If You Want Sculpted Six-Pack Abs: If you are overweight at all, see above--you can't get a six pack while you're overweight, and you can't lose abdominal fat by doing an ab workout, so go for overall fitness. However, if you are already lean, see below.

If You Want to Strengthen or Build Your Ab Muscles: If you're trying to improve for work, play, or rehab, you might consider the following books: The Body Sculpting Bible for Abs Deluxe DVD Edition contains decently up-to-date information and tells you exactly what to do and when to do it, based on a six-week fitness course. If you're looking for a similar book with more information, you can choose from The Complete Book of Abs or The Complete Book of Core Training. The Complete Book of Abs (1998) is a little out of date in terms of its dietary/nutritional recommendations, but it focuses more on exercises that develop the external abdominal muscles (the ones you see in a six-pack), including lots of variations on leg lifts, bicycle motion, and sit-ups. It will also give you more resources for creating your own program, and, if that's what you want to do, go with this one instead of The Body Sculpting Bible. The Complete Book of Core Training (2006) focuses more on the functional body core, including internal abdominal muscles, legs, etc., and includes more trendy exercises using medicine balls, exercise balls, yoga, etc. A different sort of book is Stronger Abs and Back (1997), which was written before the current fad of selling "core training," but contains the elements of core training because it gives good functional sports-focused advice. Its dietary recommendations are out of date, but it recommends a 24-week workout plan, which is much more realistic than the 6-week plans advocated by many of the other books.

If You Have Back Pain: See your doctor, and if he prescribes abdominal/core strengthening, see above.

My one-book recommendation: Body for Life.
My two-book recommendation: Body for Life + Stronger Abs and Back.
My three-book recommendation: Body for Life + Stronger Abs and Back + The Complete Book of Abs.
My four-book recommendation: Body for Life + Stronger Abs and Back + The Complete Book of Abs + The Abs Diet.

Hope this helps!!

Practical Guide to Abdominal and Pelvic MRI Review

The recent growth of abdominal and pelvic MRI has dramatically increased the complexity of this field. Practical Guide to Abdominal and Pelvic MRI was written as an alternative to the traditionally large (hard to learn) reference textbooks. The authors' premise for this publication is that LESS IS MORE. The same premise of outstanding author Clyde Helms. In other words, we should attempt to learn the essentials first and then delve into the in-depth. This up-to-date book contains practical and concise descriptions, high quality illustrations, state-of-the-art technique (MR Angiography, MR urography, MRCP, Obstetric Imaging), the most common clinical cases encountered in daily practice, MR acronyms and terminology, and frequently asked questions to help you navigate through the complex world of abdominal and pelvic MRI. I do recommend this book.

Overall an ok book but not stellar. Seems a bit disorganized. Not alot of info that is not in rosen's. some things seem a little out of place.. like a chapter on pneumonia that is quite detailed. I would have expected to get a little more info with more images since this was only about abdominal pain.... i've seen better
